The design: today’s special is your cat

A black chalkboard menu in a wooden frame fills the front of the pillow, covered in hand-chalked lettering and little doodles of coffee cups, fish and paw prints. Our designers cut your cat out of your photo and set them just behind the top edge of the board, front paws resting on the frame, exactly where a cafe manager would keep an eye on the register. The menu lists silly drinks and treats, and every price is replaced by a little chalk heart.

You personalize the cafe name and a line of the menu. Our example reads Coco’s Cat Café / Today’s Special: Lap Cat / Purr-espresso · Nap Latte · Belly Rub (not available). Your cat’s name (in the “Cat’s name” box) names the cafe, and one short line of your own, such as a new Today’s Special like “Zoomies at 3 a.m.”, goes in “Text on your gift”. For other menu changes, such as house specialties like Biscuit Kneading or Window Watching by the Hour, use “Notes for our designer” and our designers will confirm what fits, so the board stays easy to read.

Our designers then prepare the final artwork from your original photo, place your cat on the board and check every line by hand before printing.

Photo tips for the cafe manager

Your cat peeks over the top of the board with the front paws on the frame, so a photo of your cat facing the camera, with the head, chest and front paws in view, works best. Shoot at your cat’s eye level in soft daylight rather than from above, which shrinks the body. Pick a photo where the outline of the fur is sharp so the cut-out looks clean against the dark chalkboard; fluffy and long-haired cats look best photographed against a plain wall.
