This cat memorial plaque is printed directly onto a piece of natural dark slate, so every plaque is slightly different, much like the cat it remembers. A trail of small chalk-white paw prints curves up from the corner toward your cat’s portrait, as if your cat had just walked across the stone to sit for its picture.

Paw prints, stars and natural stone

About a dozen little paw prints wind in a gentle S-curve from the bottom left corner up to the portrait. Your cat’s head and shoulders are printed in soft full color, with the edges feathered into the stone, inside a hand-drawn chalk circle of tiny stars touched with soft gold. The portrait sits a little above the middle of the plaque and spans just over half its width.

Below, a short line is written in a gentle white script, followed by your cat’s name in classic serif capitals and the dates in a soft mist gray. The slate texture shows through all the white, which gives it the look of chalk on stone, and the rough chiseled edges stay bare. Our example reads Always by My Side / Smudge / 2009 – 2025 for a blue-gray and white bicolor; you add your own cat’s name and dates.

Photo tips for printing on slate

Dark slate softens fine detail, so a bright, clear head-and-shoulders photo works best, with both eyes in focus. Lighter and bicolor coats stand out beautifully against the stone. For very dark cats, choose a photo taken in good daylight so the face does not fade into the slate, and avoid photos where the cat sits in shadow.
